The Age Of War

An Epic Campaign

In the West City of Moran, one of the low realms border cities. This is a large, walled city with no pretensions. If a city could wear makeup, The West City of Moran would have none. This is a border city to guard a border and has no pretensions as to what it is. Mostly a grim and tacturian place, those seeking adventure can find it in exploring the ruins of Aradu in the neighbouring low realm of Verdi or explore the dwarven homes to the north.

PC Creation

True character creation is that indefinable storm of creative energy where you come up with a unique, imaginary individual whom you bring alive. Most roleplaying systems maintain a complex hierarchy of checks and balances to pigeonhole your character into their world stereotypes and make sure he's exactly as "powerful" as everyone else is in the party. If you conceptualize a character that doesn't fit into this mold you're forced to either change your character or change the rules.

Sadly, I no longer recall what site the above quote came from. Even so, I hold it to be true in games: to make the kind of PC you envision, you have to break rules. That, to a certain extent, is what this game is about. The Epic Saga, characters doing great deeds, saving people, earning fame or infamy as tales of their actions spread far and wide ... yet how many games can do this without problems of character balance. That doesn't mean this game will throw them to the wind, but it plans to come close, to allow players to make the kind of PC they would want to be in am epic saga, within the confines of the world.

Game Type

As certain players want and expect certain types of games, I'll go over my gaming ideas (such as they are) first.

Game Time

The campaign will be played every Thursday night at 11 pm EST (8 pm PST) in #Game1. If the DM will be late or unable to make it, it will be posted in the channel hopefully. If a player can't make it, letting the DM know is preferred. However, Real Life happens, so if you miss a session ask another player to explain what happened.

Setting: The campaign begins in the West City of the northern Low Realm of Moran in the Lands of Blood. In a broad it is the continuation of another campaign, minus all the players but one - well, two now. (So it's a really broad sense :))

Game Premise

Besides what the minor rant above, the premise of this game is that of a saga. Read some epic fantasy (Clemens, Donaldson, Eddings, Goodkind, Jordan, Kay, Rawn, Weis & Hickman etc.) for ideas. Or take legends, such as King Arthur, Merlin, Hercules ... the list is endless, but all are epic in one form or another. Many of them do larger than life deeds, or have powers that terrify, awe and amaze other beings.

Also, for all their power, these pcs are not gods. Granted, it might take a bit more to kill you, but you can die or at least do a reasonable facsimile of death. Talk to Alcar (and the other players, if you want) about your PC idea. Work with it.

PC Creation

Make a level 6 PC with whatever additions, weapons etc. you decide with Alcar about. Keep note of ALL changes made on the sheet to the race/class etc. Use the normal character creation page, except no traits -- you'll have enough stuff just being you.

Sample PC Ideas

Many of the following ideas (and much of the game) will likely contradict certain assumptions about the world, especially those held by players in the other Lands of Blood campaign. Don't confuse them.

Well, you get the idea ... practially anything goes, as long as a player can justify it. Remember that this is NOT a munchkin game: in the Lands of Blood, all power has prices, and sacrifice is the key to all power. As even the mightiest Dragons have learned, there are some things power can't do, and the hardest power to wield is the one thats never used.

Oh, and no PC can be a dragon. Thats way, way too munchy in this world. Ditto with greater demons.

Players

PlayerPCRaceClass(es)
aslhkDurganHumanThief (?)
BaliadocAllynorDrowFighter/Monk
CaltakRene"Human"Fighter/Rogue
ChaosMorsHuman (heh)Fighter
KeithMarandaSuccubusMonk/Drunken Master

Generally, the first players to finish PCs will be the first ones to play. A maximum of 5 to 6 regular players will be permitted. A finished character sheet DOES include a background of some description.

If someone wishes to play NOT as one of the "epic pcs" -- such as a sidekick/comic relief/punching bag roll -- talk to Alcar. Your PC will be lesser than the others, and not given as much attention from the DM, but you can play. All heroes need sidekicks ... sometimes its all that keeps them human (or elf, or dwarf).

Campaign

This is a brief recap of the sessions to date.

Northward, ho!

Session 1: Meetings

<Maranda`-`> the biggest advantage to drunken master is it gives a monk baced pc something to do with all the gold they inevtably end up with

The PCs Meet each other at an inn in Moran where they see a drunken master being initiated (with an over 300 gp bar tab resulting) and are subjected to the torture of listening to a bard named Medrel sing. A strange sgtar falls north of the city and they investigate, meeting Mercer and learning he is not from this world.
Experience: 2,500

Session 2: Heading Northward

<Rene`-> "Well the problem is I don't really know the questions either. I need to know why I was brought back and what I'm supposed to do."
<Mors`^> "Well, I don't think sucking people dry is one of the reasons... but that's my opinion.."

Continuing north, The PCs are attacked by a star ship from the Empire and manage to survive, butn it is likely the cities further south will not.
Experience: 3,350.5

Session 3: A) She Who Waits B) Evil Prophecy C) Maranda. For 5 points, which is worse? :)

<Mercer```> "If that's all you want, I've turned down that offer from you at least twice now."
<Maranda``-`> "Awwwh you just don't know what your missing"
* Maranda``-` goes back to pressing her self against mercer
<Mercer```> "I know exactly what I'm missing. You should spend the night with a Wookie."

Maranda realises she will be sober in a week. After that, meeting an old woman who told an evil prophecy and arriving at the demonic mountains maybe weren't all that bad.

The Curse of "She Who Waits" was: "Get out of my home. The world is not young, but I am what I was enough to force you to leave. For my cards, I tell you this: You will face evil, and awaken greater evil. The stars will be right and death will die. There will be no lesser evil to choose. This is my curse on you, in the name of Arkon."
Experience: 4,699.5

Session 4: The Dwarven Demonic Mountains

<durgan> lol, okay, let's see, npc meetings so far: we scared the hell out of a rock, we argued with a guy with a dog's head, and mors married a prisoner he'd met for no less than five minutes *grin* oh, I forgot to mention that we almost killed her before they determined the value of a good marriage, I guess

The PCs met a demonic Hound Archon and fought some storm troopers. Mors managed to nearly kil one, then marry her. The other PCs still haven't been able to understand that action.
Experience: 4,100

Session 5: The Village Orgy: A Maranda Exclusive

<Rene`-> She can start an orgy, that'll distract them.
<Maranda`-`> thats what she did
<Rene`-> oh I see
<Maranda`-`> just came back to get more flesh

The village beside the North City of Moran is saved from a riot by the PCs (and Maranda inducing most of the male population into maving an orgy all by herself.)
Experience: 5,400

Session 6: Window Shopping: D&D Style

'After toppling an altruistic democracy, seizing control of the military, and establishing yourself as supreme dictator, it's a good idea to invest in helmets that your troops can see through.
- Lessons from Star Wars

The PCs enter the city, get things from the ruins and have a run in with a hairy human who they give clothing to, the Liber Ivonus [BWHAHAHHAH! - DM] and some storm troopers. Guess who wins?
Experience: 5,200

Session 7: <Mercer>"Hastur, Haster, Haster." :)

<Mercer```> did I summon up some weenie Elder God? oh blah. I want big HP's!

Mercer summons up a creature that tries to eat him and the other PCs. He dies by it but the others manage to kill it, bury him, and the book.
Experience: 4,500

To Death With Empires

Session 8: Meetings

<AlcarDM> Senton it turns out, has arrived at the village/city. he has no idea where he's been before then but his hind end is sore and he has a strange mark branded on his left hind leg. Oh, yes, and a fear of bright lights in the sky.
<SeNToN> (( i don;t even really want to know ))
<Rene`-> (( AHH! NOO! THEY'RE BACK! oh, wait... just the sun. ))

A stranger (Allynor) comes to the village and joins it. The PCs continue with their plans to deal with the Empire, from Shield Golens that sadly don't like Astro Boy to training men for war. The village women being making burial shrounds, being the pratical sorts.
Experience: 5,0000

Session 9: Bargaining With The Empire

<Mors`^> (( I don't trust that rock.. ))

The PCs deal with the Empire, so that the city becomes a base of sorts and they give the Empire information about the world in exchange for their city being rebuilt. Maranda ends up sneaking into the Empire transport and going back to their base, where she proceeds to stand off against them all and demand they leave the planet.
Experience: 4,400

Session 10: Surviving Said Bargaining :)

<Maranda`-`> "I'm... A little drunk..." *hickup* "ok... more then a little"
<AlcarDM> Allegra blinks "You tried to invade an imperial base drunk?" She shakes her head "Perhaps that explains the entire reason for it..."
* Maranda`-` giggles then hickups "I drink in battle, I drink to become stronger."
<Maranda`-`> "Sooooon. i'll drink to heal..."
<AlcarDM> Allegra mutters to herself "Well, that's a novel explanation if I've ever heard one..."

Durgan begins making deals with a strange witch afraid of falling houses; Rene refuses to become a Sith and kills the Sith named Seth; Maranda dfinds that the other Sith is in lust (love?) with her. Wow, it's the D&D version of a Soap Opera!

There is no light, there is darkness
There is no love, there is hatred
There is no contempt, there is honor
There are no limits, there are the Sith
