Dwarves

As a dwarf you are broken. The demons invaded the mountains of the dwarves during the demon war and destroyed them, forcing your people to flee south or be annihilated. The items of power left behind were warded against the demons with the last of your old lore and buried deep in the stones to remain hidden until your people are no more. It has been nearly 500 years since you were rooted from the stones that strengthened the dwarves and made your people truly children of the living stone. That you were once great you cannot escape. That you could be great again is what drives many of your people to drink and insensibility.

You were reared with the stories of the mountains and the ancient forges and caverns of your people. The greatness of the dwarves was yours and some of the fabled stone strength of your people came to you through those memories that were your mother’s gift as much as her milk was. It was this strength that allowed the dwarves to hold out against the demons as long as you did. The fact that you did not use some of the weapons fashioned with dark skill deep in the world where water and stone meet possibly saved the world. Historians agree that if you’re people had fallen sooner, the demons would have overrun all the lands. You know that if the dwarves had not fled you’re people would have been no more.

And still. The mountains were left to the demons. The stone left to their dark grasps and foul magics, betrayed by its children. For your sins, you drink. You ran away -- all dwarves are one, as your ancestors ran you would have also, or died -- and the stories of the stubborn bravery of your people now are fuelled more by suicidal courage than fact. You were cowards. You chose life over honour. For that, you hope the drink will someday break you as it breaks other races, for them will the stone have released you. Until then, you dream of reclaiming your lands every day, and fall senseless into sleep weeping quiet tears into your beard and no one is looking. Stone cannot forgive, nor forget.

Racial: All Dwarves gain a +2 to their Willpower Saves. Against Fear magics and demonic magic, this save becomes a +4.
