As humans we have always divided ourselves. Male-female, adult-child, haves-have nots and such. Now we divide ourselves historically by pre-war and post-war. And by Blood and non-Blood. Somehow we have persevered Divided against ourselves -- sometimes to the point of insanity -- we have somehow managed to become a force in the world to be reckoned with. Much of this is owed to the Blood and the debt owed to our ancestors for using it to shield Uld and the larger one to Bred for making this gift wide spread. The Blood is the power that has kept us strong and the force that has held humanity together through centuries of toil and danger.
But the Blood are human also. They have the same need to survive, the strong desire to endure and live that makes our race at once wondrous and terrifying. What would be do to keep it? What would we do to survive? What prices and sacrifices are we willing to make for ourselves and our kin and kind? Most races don’t ask these questions because they know what they’d do. But our loyalties flow like a river, like blood from a wound, changing and being changed. What happens when the Blood are pushed too far, if humans have to choose between our survival and that of other species? The choices we make within our kind make be afraid. I wonder if, perhaps, we would be better off without this power.
