F.A.Q. ~ Players ~ Powers ~ World ~ Main
I'm honoured that the publisher of this underground magazine asked me to write this brief article for all Weres. As is custom, all names and dates have been changed, and it's not an article I'm planning to put on my resume. However, within these confines I can give you my theories on what werefolk are and why they are. This isn't a cannonical text by any means, just the airing of some views I've had for a few years now.
Werefolk obviously aren't human. Fishy, feathered, furry, fuzzy or scaley, werefolk all have the ability to become 2 to 3 different forms, largely at will though mostly psychological limits of the moon and control over one's inner beast or self or whatever name you give it can limit forms or control over them. But that is an article for another time and place. This one is focuses on why we're here and what we are.
It is the author's personal belief that being a werefolk is a recessive gene, often triggered by seeing another werewolf or a moment of extreme stress, hunger, anger or fear. In some cases, this gene skips generations, even if both parents are werefolk. Some people even have a werefolk aura but for some reason are never able to make the change even though they seem to be werefolk -- a circumstance that would very likely make ones life a living hell.
Some werefolk have undergone genetic testing to try and find a way to remove the well known susceptibility of weres to silver, but so far tests have been inconclusive, as far as I know. it is my personal opinion that our weaknesses are entirely evolutionary. We might be a step beyond humanity, as some weres arrogantly assume, but we also have more limits than they do. I think our powers and weaknesses are made to limit us. Without the weakness to silver, we wouldn't be weres.
Even some of our powers, such as rapid healing, can be a weakness sometimes. I've met weres tortured with molten silver used on them, or weres who had their bones broken and healed that way before they could reset them. A compound fracture and were healing without the state I call super healing is not a pretty picture. Even our super healing, with can heal falls from even the CN Tower in Canada, has its own limits in exhausting us and our healing power, leaving us open to die by any weapon.
Next issue, I hope to get more in depth with some known were powers and the link between the warmth of life we give off and our being lords of death, as well as how the aura is used whenever we sense each other and compare it with the cold aura of the vampires.
Editors note: The next article was never received and the author seems to have vanished without a trace. Draw what conclusions you wish from that.
