Aliens Fraal Human Sesheyan T'sa Weren Others
The Fraal civilisation is old, older that recorded human history and perhaps Homo sapiens themselves. their home world has been used for so long that it has nothing useful left on it, having left its geological cycle long ago and becoming a waste land. Only the technology of the Fraal enabled them to survive the centuries after the world had been plundered of useful metals. Exactly how and why these metals were plundered is unknown, though Fraal legends claim the "Light Bearers" did it to strand the Fraal on their world for a past crime.
The Fraal home world holds The City, but also many ruins and marvels of technology long forgotten. The process of adapting these mind-powered devices to technology the other races can use is slow and laborious, unfortunately. The most interesting discovery has been "Portals" devices that allow a Fraal instant teleportation to a certain location or other portal, though it drains half their energy. The City has enough portals that the Fraal has never made travelling vehicles or seen roads until they visited Human colonies. Indeed. their technology was enough to allow Fraal psychokinetics to replace fork lifts and wrecking machines with the aid of said devices. Only now, understanding how little of their own technology they understand, do the Fraal mourn their lack of understanding.
Interestingly, some portals lead to Fraal colony worlds -- obviously abandoned and, in many places, look as if someone scoured the buildings from the worlds by orbital laser weapons, things the Fraal seem to have never had access to. Fraal refuse to use those portals, claiming it is forbidden and none return from them alive. Many older Fraal think leaving the world in human Star ships was tempting enough to fate, but so far the race has been safe.
HISTORY (as known by humanity): The Fraal never developed inter-stellar travel -- despite their miraculous achievements in the area of environmental maintenance -- due to a lack of resources on their world. Evidence suggests these resources were used, but if by another species exploiting the Fraal or by the Fraal themselves isn't know. Regardless, the Fraal have no idea who used them or even if they left the world. The encounter with humanity is a very big bonus for their dying world and the exchange of space travel for environmental adaptation proves beneficial to both races.
The discovery of genetic compatibility shocks both races, and human-Fraal offspring (dubbed framen, in polite conversation) are common for a short time. All human mind walkers have Fraal ancestors, though one can buy the psionic talent perk and not have Fraal blood. Half breeds tend to fit into neither society and are shunned by humans for their mental abilities, and not understood by Fraal due to their human outlook on life. A half breed raised entirely by Fraal would be accepted in Fraal culture for the most part.
