Aliens Fraal Human Sesheyan T'sa Weren Others
"In the latter years of the twenty first century, mankind took many steps. The first was away from a monetary system. The second was to the stars. The third was to the aliens . . . the fourth was to war. Somewhere during this war we barely won, against the aliens who ironically resembled our fanciful green Martians, we took our last step away from superstition and gods. And yet, seeing the footage of destruction, of the deaths we caused, I am struck by one simple fact: We never asked their names. We have no idea what they called themselves.Humanities first alien encounter. A race of translucent being dubbed "ghosts" by the media in the early 22nd century. Nothing is known of them because they reaction to humans flying into their atmosphere was a tactical nuke. The human reply was war. The aliens, while largely translucent, were verry vulnerable to energy weapons and the first mass-produced laser rifles proved extremely effective. When the aliens took on sold form, they were small, grren, bug eyed with antenae: they quickly became evil "martians". Humanity won the war -- barely -- but the price of it is still being felt today."We stepped to the stars, no better than Columbus . . . but we knew where we went. We bear responsibility for what we did to them, and to ourselves. In those years, we claimed to have walked away from the gods and abandoned them. I think that perhaps it was the other way around."
